Food Costa Rica | Review of Los Amigos Restaurant

Guru Note: The Costa Rica Food Guru is a new service of Costa Rica Gurus providing unbiased restaurant reviews for restaurants throughout the Central Pacific so that people know where to eat when they travel Costa Rica. By using anonymous food critics, we hope to provide honest unbiased opinions of both popular eating establishments as well as off the beaten path locations that many people may not know about. We also hope our reviews will keep local restaurants on their toes as they will never know when the Food Guru will pop up and be reviewing their restaurant.

Los Amigos Restaurant

Los Amigos Restaurant has for many years been one of the busiest and most popular places to eat and drink in Jaco.  With their central location, consistently good food and air conditioned dining room and bar, its no wonder to see why.  They are open Los Amigos serves lunch and dinner.  When traveling, its nice to find a spot that has the comforts of home but the charm of the place you are visiting…Los Amigos is one of those spots.

One awesome thing about Los Amigos is their extensive menu for a sports bar.  The menu contains everything from interesting appetizers (fried pickles) to burgers to thai food to sandwiches.Los Amigos shows USA and Costa Rican based sports on their multiple TVs.  During certain sporting events, the restaurant is extremely busy and reservations are suggested.  There is seating inside and outside, however, more TVs are inside the restaurant.  Restrooms are located outside by walking out the doors near the bar area and around the corner.  Reservations can be made online and the menu can be viewed there as well, in both English and Spanish.  Owner Chris Mandel is seen quite often interacting with guests.  At night, there are torches outside the door that are lit and are a fun additon to the decor.  There is also a DJ on weekends later at night.

My most recent visit, I ate lunch with five people after a local tour.  We found a table inside to take advantage of the air conditioning. We were greeted immediately and ordered drinks, varying from smoothies to beer to sodas.  The smoothies are incredible. They are huge and called Big Ass Smoothies.  You can add protein to the smoothies as well.  The waiter answered questions from the group about meals and choices. Appetizers were ordered and then lunch.  Every person enjoyed their meals.  The pad thai was ordered, as well as quesadillas, burgers, and ceviche.I have eaten at Los Amigos many times since moving to the Jaco area.  Each time has been great.  Service is always super friendly and quick.  My absolute favorite meal at the restaurant is the shrimp pad thai.  The quesadillas are great as well, and the Ceasar salad is made USA style with amazing dressing.  Portion sizes are large and appetizers are enough for a meal.  They are known for their burgers. Good beef is difficult to find in Costa Rica and every single person I have eaten with at Los Amigos raves about the burger size and quality.

I highly recommend Los Amigos.  It is a great place to escape the heat on a hot day, or to catch a game on the TVs with friends.  Food is consistently good and service consistently fabulous.  It is my favorite sports bar in the area. Pura Vida!  The Guru Gourmet!
